Hitch Companies Warnings:

  • Do not exceed the motorcycle manufactures gross vehicle weight limit when loading or pulling a trailer
  • Tongue weight should never exceed 10% of gross trailer weight including contents and cargo...
  • Hitchdoc maximum tongue weight 40 lbs...
  • Hitchdoc hitches are made from 3/8" and 1/4" plate steel...
  • Lock or pin receiver style hitch
  • Lock or pin coupler to ball...

CAUTION:

  • Always ride in a conservative and safety conscience manner when towing a trailer...
  • Motorcycle performance is always effected by adding a trailer to the motorcycle...
  • Never exceed motorcycle, trailer or hitch manufactures limits for gross weight or tongue weight...
  • Extra distance of 10 to 20 % is always required by motorcycles pulling a trailer...
  • Always decrease from normal speeds, when towing a trailer, going into a turn...
  • When riding in groups with trailer ride at the rear to decrease accident exposure...{ Personally I don't agree on this. If you maintain the staggered 2 second law, there should never be a problem.}
  • Never exceed posted speed signs for vehicles towing a trailer, which can be different than non towing...
  • Fast lanes may not allow towed vehicles, need to obey...

Purchaser warning... Extremly Important...

  • Regardless of how the hitch gets put on your motorcycle, by either yourself, motorcycle dealer, trailer dealer or a friend... The newly installed hitch should be checked every hundred miles or so for the first 500 miles and at least every couple hundred miles afterwards for tightness of bolts or any hitch fatigue...
  • Check how close tire is to hitch if a hidden hitch or near tire... Very Important... What was a safe distance with only one person on bike may create a hazard with two on bike... I have heard of a couple cases recently about this with tire sidewall rubbing when traveling down the road... Manufacture should be notified immediately, as well as the dealer...
  • Remember... Safety should be your number one concern... Bolts can and do loosen up... Check frequently...
  • Have also found nothing changed bike wise from one year to next, BUT, the newer year had a wider tire from year previous... Be aware of what tires you replace on your motorcycle...
  • Hitch manufactures try there best. But sometimes they have very close tolerances to work with and regardless, the new hitch owner has got to be responsible for there own safety...
